Day 10: Day trip along the coast, highlight - Nakalele Point, Blowhole

After all the whale activity yesterday we were disappointed to not have any visitors this morning. We took some time to check in with the concierge at our Condo Resort and learn about some other local activities and confirm information about the ones we already knew. That would include the Nakalele Blowhole on the north shore. Looked liked a good day with overcast skies to keep the heat down.

Plover type of bird that keeps showing up when we sit on the lanai.

First walk of the day along this beach and over to the point

Hard to find, the Kapalua Bay is one of the highest rated snorkeling sites.
After spending time at the Bay, we took the highway along the North shore looking for the Blowhole, This is a twisting, winding, narrow road. Going only about 20 mph, the 9 miles took about 45 minutes to complete. Then there was the hike to the cliff-side.
This hike is over lava rocks, which are sharp. Also be careful not to tread on the plants and avoid the tidal pools.

Aww. A heart shaped opening.

Bob is ready for lunch.

This blowhole is unpredictable in timing and intensity with spray topping out at 70 feet high.

Can be misty,

a small shower,

or a big downpour.
I know it's not really right to laugh, but while we were standing about 30 feet from the blowhole a couple walked up. The man stopped about 30 feet away while the woman continued to get closer and closer until she was only about 5 feet away. This is not a smart thing to do. She leans closer then turns around for the man to take her picture and whoosh - the big downpour right (see above) over the top of her. Not her finest hour but sometimes karma is a nasty one.

We are at the bottom and have to climb past the mushroom like rock formation and keep going up to the rim at 205 feet.

Our local turtles taking a late day siesta.

Five had hauled out for a little sleep so we took a few pics and left them alone.

Dinner at the Java Jazz.

Very eclectic decorations and jazz.

Another beautiful ending to a fun day. This is at Black Rock Beach.
